da Vinci Jr. pro: replacing glass bed

Postby MaarioT » Wed Mar 28, 2018 12:40 am

Hello

Ordered my first 3D printer and I chose it to be da Vinci Jr. 1.0 Pro. I am researching as much as I can about the best practices of 3d printing but I am sure as a beginner that I will make mistake or two while using the printer. Because of that I wanted to ask, is it possible to replace the glass of the printing bed (can I just unscrew the clips and replace it with correct size heat resistant glass or is the glass glued to the bed frame)?

Thanks

I think you can just replace it. Does the pro have a heated bed? If it does, the heater might be bonded to it. If that's the case the answer is no.

No, the Jr. Pro does not have heated bed.
I found one tip that I am going to test. Someone suggested that when bluetaping the bed, I should first cut out piece of baking paper (don't know how it is called in english. It's the paper you bake cookies on :) ), little smaller than the bed, so that when I apply tape on top of that then only the edges of the bed are taped.
Idea is that I can then remove the bed tape with the printed item so I don't have to risk scratching the glass or messing with bed levelling/bearings/rods.

Let me know how it works. On larger prints, I thought even pla will warp a tiny bit. Not being secure to a solid surface might facilitate that. Baking paper, wax paper, people will still know what you mean.. :)

Got my jr pro today. Amazing piece of hardware. I hoped that baking paper idea will work but no, it is very hard to get it absolutely flat. Better to learn to remove them from the bed the right way :)

Blue tape is pretty effective and easy to install. Some scraping is needed sometimes, but generally you won't chip the bed. Even if you do chip it, blue tape is still effective. Just don't press down in the area of the chip and it will sort of float across.
Post some of your first prints! It will be nice to document your first prints, and your experience in a new post.
Have fun printing!

The next factor to consider is wheels. BMX bikes typically come with 20-inch wheels, but there are 24-inch wheels available as well. Depending on how you plan to use your bike, you may want to consider a different size. Joseph
